I had a hard time getting through the book, likely due to Cheryl's incompetence as a writer, but while reading this blog, oh my gosh I can hardly put it down! I was looking for something that would profoundly explain away the "what the hell was that??" feeling as the credits rolled. I came away from this profound experience feeling the same way as I do while watching "Naked and Afraid"; I am neither inspired to travel to some distant land, ripping my clothes off and brandishing my fire maker, nor am I seeking redemption trudging through the desert with a monster on my back. I just don't get it but I am loving your blog! I can't help but laugh out loud with your every post. Why wasn't the movie based on your blog instead of the book? However, it never once occurred to me to *whine* about it. She shouldn't be applauded for it...especially not in a blockbuster movie that will have people thinking, "well, if she can do it..."
The wilderness is hard. It gives fuck-all if you're prepared. Even well-prepared people occasionally die in the wilderness. Cheryl is just lucky. And, she doesn't even the have the decency to admit it.

Yes. It gets hot on that section of the trail. DRY, parched, hyperthermia hot. As the blogger points out, that's why most people start out at 4am and take a siesta around 11. Then they head out about 2 and end about 6. Giving themselves time to make camp and eat and sleep to do it all again tomorrow.

Again...I have to say it. This particular part of the PCT usually has more people on it and near it. The closer you get to Kennedy Meadows, the more people you see. This is a playground for people. Yet...her descriptions mention the wrong topography for the actual PCT (some suspect she took a more direct route....by way of yellow blaze and other, easier trails).
